A weekly interview between New York Giants legend Carl Banks and WFAN hosts Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata turned sour Wednesday with the pair ending the phone call early.
During the conversation, Banks took issue with an encapsulation by Licata that current Giants defender Kayvon Thibodeaux “looks awkward” and that he “stinks”.
“This unhealthy obsession for finding what is wrong with Kayvon Thibodeaux is bordering weird,” said Banks. “Don’t be informed unless you can educate yourself and look for what’s right.”
Tierney countered by arguing that it isn’t his job to only speak on the positives. “The one thing that’s truly bothering me is that you’re making it seem like we’re unnecessarily, overly negative.”
Banks countered by saying the opinion was “unhealthy”, adding If it’s not your job to find out what the kid does right, then it should not be your job to call him a bust,” when Licata interjected.
“I’ve heard enough!”, Licata shouted. “I’ve heard enough! I can’t take it anymore. Take him down. I’m serious. Carl’s supposed to be on the air and educate us. I don’t want to hear that we can’t give our opinion on what I’m seeing. Tell me why what I’m seeing is wrong…that is my opinion on it.”
“I’m not open to being lectured about how to do a show,” concluded Tierney. “I hate that that comes across as disrespectful because I really do love Carl…after a while, it’s too much. You can’t tell us how to do a show.”
The WFAN host took to social media after the interaction Wednesday, saying that Banks “lecturing us on how to do a show is where today’s disconnect started. Got off the rails. Just being honest.”
Tierney continued by saying that he holds no animosity toward Banks and looks forward to speaking to him again next week.
“We see things differently. Got heated. All good. I genuinely enjoy having him on every week and look forward to next week. And I mean that,” Tierney wrote. “Never here to do good people dirty. But we will always defend our show and what we do.”
