Former CNN President Jeff Zucker has been frequently linked as a potential buyer of CNN should Warner Bros. Discovery decide to sell the cable network. He admitted that he would be interested in looking at an acquisition.
While appearing at the Yahoo Finance Invest Conference, Zucker shared that while CNN is “not for sale” and that his RedBird IMI capital firm wasn’t currently investigating a purchase, he called the network a “fantastic asset”.
“Some day if it were available, like any other great asset, we would look at it,” Zucker said. “That’s not to say yes or no, it’s just to say it’s a great asset and if the time came, we would look at it.”
Jeff Zucker served as President of CNN from 2013 until 2022 when he resigned after an affair with a colleague was unearthed.
Earlier this year, a report from TheWrap labeled Zucker as “desperate” to purchase CNN. However, Zucker reportedly asked for a retraction from the outlet, with confidants calling Zucker “more baffled than angry” about the encapsulation.
Additionally, the New York Post claimed Zucker was likely to place a bid to purchase the struggling cable news giant this fall. However, no such bid has taken place.
