Being the host of Monday Night Countdown has been an adjustment of sorts for ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, but so far it seems like his efforts are paying off.
SVP on Monday ahead of that crazy Bills/Broncos game on MNF joined The Michael Kay Show for his weekly hit on 98.7 ESPN New York. He said he’s just trying to steer the Monday Night Countdown bus straight and keep it out of the mud.
Viewership has reflected a general sense that SVP is doing a good job. Kay said Van Pelt should be over the moon with the audience turnout. ESPN reported on Monday that halfway through the 2023 season, the SVP-led Monday Night Countdown is averaging 1.2 million viewers on ESPN, with the final hour averaging 1.6 million.
Van Pelt said he was happy to hear people are tuning in.
“You do your best and you hope people turn up,” he said. “If they do, wonderful.”
Kay responded by saying SVP was just being super humble, which is just how Van Pelt is.
“It’s all you,” Kay said. “It’s all you my friend.”
