FOX and NBC appear to be committed to remaining TV partners of the NASCAR Cup Series moving forward, but NASCAR is hoping to once again bring in a third network to cover a limited stretch of the schedule starting in 2025.
Sports Business Journal reported that NASCAR is proposing a 10-race midseason package, which is up from the six-race slate it had previously been trying to sell to potential partners.
The SBJ reporting noted that Amazon is being considered a frontrunner to land the package along with Warner Bros. Discovery’s TNT/TBS. NASCAR has a history of airing on TNT and TBS. In the mid-2010s, TNT aired a similar stretch of racing between the end of FOX’s run at the start of the season and NBC’s run at the end.
It was also reported that Amazon and WBD could potentially split the package, although NASCAR appears to prefer one network take on all 10 events.
FOX and NBC have previously split both the Cup and Xfinity Series schedules, with FOX being the exclusive home for the Craftsman Truck Series campaign. That’s part of the current media rights deal that was signed in 2013. It’s believed the current contract is worth $820 million annually.
NASCAR recently announced that in 2025 coverage of the Xfinity Series would be moving exclusively to The CW.
SBJ indicated that a formal announcement of this next media rights deal could come as early as next week when the sport holds its end-of-year awards in Nashville.
