The Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles recently agreed on financial terms regarding local TV rights revenue with MASN, a legal battle between the two ballclubs that’s spanned more than a decade.
Front Office Sports reported both franchises will receive $304 million, representing rights fees for the 2017-2021 seasons. The Orioles and Nationals co-own the regional sports network MASN, with Baltimore having the controlling majority.
Earlier this summer, the two teams resolved their dispute over rights fees due from 2012-16. The Nationals will get $100 million through that settlement.
A review of rights fees payments to the Nationals happens every five years. The review is a requirement part of a settlement between MLB and Baltimore owner Peter Angelos when the Montreal Expos relocated to Washington, D.C. in 2004.
Washington had long contested that the rights fees they were receiving were below market value.
