Expect more Monday Night Football doubleheaders on ESPN and ABC in 2024. After a trial run of three weeks with two games at the same time, the NFL and Disney are likely going to expand their slate.

The three doubleheaders all offered varying degrees of start times, but NFL Executive Vice President and Chief Media and Business Officer Brian Rolapp told the Boston Globe that it’s all about maximizing how much football they can get in front of viewers.

“I’m not sure we’ve drawn any broad conclusions yet, but we do like the model where it’s ultimately more football for fans,” Rolapp said. “Last Monday was a perfect example — both those games were fantastic, and everyone got to see it, go back and forth, which they’re doing on Sundays anyway in a lot of ways.”

The mindset behind setting those matchups next year, Rolapp said, is elevating good games that might otherwise get buried in the early window on Sunday.

“The whole concept behind it is, can we take under-distributed games on Sunday afternoon and make it more widely distributed and we get a bigger audience?” he said.
