Social media outlets such as X often make the mainstream news outlets due to what accounts say on both the left and right. Additionally, these thoughts and opinions can be loud; however, Chris Cuomo stated that the users on this platform are the minority, not the majority in society.
In the latest episode of The Chris Cuomo Project, the NewsNation host tackled social media, labeling the platforms as a dumpster fire and highlighting Twitter during the episode.
“Twitter is not reality. It does not reflect how people feel about things in this society,” Cuomo said. “How do we know? Because you know in your own life that you spend a lot of time looking around at the dialog that’s going on and saying, ‘Who are these people? How did they arrive at this? Why are we even talking about this this way? How did this happen?’ Because being regular is now irregular. Being regular is now unusual.”
Cuomo then stated that X owner Elon Musk is the way to be as one of the heads of a social media outlet. The anchor adds that Musk is forwarding his agendas, which is why Cuomo initially hoped Threads, which Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta owns, would be a viable competition to X.
“I think that for all the outlets we have, we actually need more, and I think people have to do it differently and let the marketplace decide,” Cuomo said. “I really thought that Threads was going to have more impact.
“I think they needed to do more things differently than Twitter than they did, other than just being an alternative. And I know that usage of it has really dropped. Does that show that there’s only space for one? Doubtful because, really, there isn’t one.”
