Longtime WBZ news reporter Doug Cope has died after a battle with cancer.
Cope retired in 2019 after 17 years with the Boston all-news station, and was fondly remembered by colleagues as “one of the good guys”.
“When Doug was assigned a story, you knew it was never going to be mailed in,” WBZ reporter Drew Moholland said during the Morning Report on Thursday, according to the Boston Herald.

Known for his deep voice, Cope reported on everything from local courts to the Boston Marathon during his tenure with WBZ.
“You can still hear his voice when you think about your conversations with him, and his presence is still here,” said WBZ morning news anchor Jeff Brown.
Doug Cope was 69.
