FS1 host Nick Wright rolls his eyes like a lot of other viewers do when he tunes in to a debate on whether LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan.
Wright was a guest on This Is Football with Kevin Clark this week, and Nick was asked if there was one thing in sports media he could retire.
He said while the LeBron/MJ one is an easy topic to pick, but he would love to see the discussion on Kyle Shanahan quarterbacks like Brock Purdy and Jimmy Garoppolo.
“In the contemporary moment I think that Shannahan quarterbacks, it’s been good for me professionally,” Wright said. “And it will be good for me again when once again I get to be right.”
Wright added that he’s going to relish in the fact that people in the media are so high on Purdy when they were singing a different tune with Jimmy G.
“I have all this tape of all my colleagues being like, ‘I think this guy’s the MVP of the league. Why can’t he be Tom Brady?'” he said. “But it makes us all dumber, and the lack of self-awareness from some of my colleagues who were dying on this hill for Jimmy Garoppolo and then are like, ‘No, no, no it’s so different. This guy processes so much faster.’ I’m like, OK.”
Nick Wright continued that it’s kind of a lame argument especially when they provide the “trust me, bro” defense.
But by the end of his response, Wright actually convinced himself he liked the whole debate. Especially because he knows Purdy won’t be the NFL MVP.
“Actually, you know what I take it back,” he said. “I enjoy that conversation now that I think of it. Because I know I get to be vindicated on it.”
