Rob Connett Out at 680 WPTF in Raleigh

680 WPTF morning host Rob Connett has announced his departure from the North Carolina news/talk station.

In a post to X, Connett shared he was told in a phone call that he was no longer hosting the morning program after joining the daypart in 2023.

“Over the holidays, I was informed that I am no longer employed at Curtis Media Group. I was shocked, saddened, and blindsided,” Connett wrote, per RadioInsight. “I am proud of the hard work that went into the WPTF Morning Show… I’m going to miss my colleagues and the friendships that were created during my time in the building. But… I’m ready for the next chapter of my life. Plans are already in the works. 2024 will definitely be a year of change. Stay tuned.”

  1. He brought an interesting format with him to mornings. Curtis Media seems to have terminated/eliminated him, but thus far, have kept his format??

Times really change. At 50000 watt powerhouse stations in the past, on-air talent became part of your family. You knew when they were married, had kids, knew their names, etc. And certainly, if talent left or was let go, there would be an explanation on-air. Rob Connett is the second morning guy at WPTF to just “vaporize” without any discussion (Scott Briggaman was replaced without any word, as well). Seems like the clear channel (note the small c) AM stations really are the walking dead of media. Thats sad…
