99.9 The Fan Gains Momentum in Raleigh Fall Ratings Book

With the Carolina Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes in the midst of their seasons, along with various college teams in the area, there were plenty of conversations to be had surrounding professional sports in the Raleigh marketplace. Capitol Broadcasting Company’s 99.9 The Fan delivered for the quarter, attaining an 8.1 share and third-place finish in weekday prime (M-F 6a-7p) among Men 25-54 in the fall Nielsen ratings book. The station garnered its highest average share and cume of the year, improving by nine-tenths of a point from its third-place result last quarter. Year-over-year, the outlet moved up one ranking position and improved its 6.0 share from last fall.

ESPN Radio’s Unsportsmanlike featuring Evan Cohen, Michelle Smallmon and Chris Canty airs in the market in the morning drive timeslot. The trio completing the fall by pulling in a 7.5 share, equating to a fourth-place result. That was down from a 7.9 share the show received last quarter, which put it in a tie for first place locally. At this time last year, ESPN Radio featured Keyshawn, JWill & Max in this daypart which has since been discontinued. That program earned a 4.3 share last year, which was tied for seventh.

The early midday slot features ESPN Radio’s #Greeny, which recently closed out the year landing a two top ranking for 10 of 12 months. In the fall book, the show attained a 10.7 share and concurrent first-place finish. Although the show was down compared to the summer when it had a 12.0 share, it improved on its year-to-year numbers. Last fall, the program had a 3.5 share and was tied for 11th among Men 25-54.

Adam Gold hosts the second midday show from 12p-3p where he earned an 8.9 share for the quarter. That placed Gold in first-place. Both shares and cume for the show are up year-to-year as well, improving from a 5.2 share and seventh-place outcome at this same time last fall. Compared to the summer book, Gold’s program rose by 3.3 shares when it was ranked fifth.

Tim Donnelly, who took over afternoons after Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio departed, completed his first full ratings book with the station. The three-hour show ranked third in the market with an 8.7 share, an improvement from last quarter. Year-over-year though, the program is down 0.9 shares and one ranking position.

For the full week (M-SU 6a-12a), 99.9 The Fan finished third with a 7.9 share, boosting its 6.2 share from the quarter prior. Nonetheless, the sports radio station finished fifth over the summer, thus improving its ranking by two spots. The outlet accumulated a 5.7 share last fall, which was tied for fourth in the market.
