A question at an NFL press conference about the bitter cold in Detroit — despite the Lions playing their games indoors — went viral earlier this week. That prompted 95.5 WSB afternoon host Eric Von Haessler to lament the downfall of reporting.
During a Tampa Bay Buccaneers press conference, a reporter asked head coach Todd Bowles what preparations the team had made to play in Detroit this weekend, with temperatures struggling to reach the 20s. Bowles politely answered that the game would be held indoors and that the team only needed to deal with the cold temps for the 20 seconds it took to get off the bus and into the stadium.
With the clip going viral, Eric Von Haessler took the opportunity to share his opinion on the lack of research reporters do for stories, noting that the reporter who asked the question “failed”.
“Her only job is to ask questions. What I want to say to you listening is that’s a little window, apply it to the reporters on the street on CNN, on Fox News, apply it to any reporter under the age of 40,” The Von Haessler Doctrine host said. “And I guarantee you when they’re talking to you about war, deficits, debt, government shutdowns, they know little more of the background than that young lady did that the Detroit Lions play indoors.”
