Layoffs dominated the news in the media industry this week. Several publications announced widespread cuts, including organizations like Business Insider, the Los Angeles Times, and Paramount Global, among others. Megyn Kelly believes those developments are a positive.

During The Megyn Kelly Show Thursday, the former cable news host questioned what led to the mass layoffs at the outlets, before noting she isn’t sorry so to see the industry suffer through the current issues.

“With all due respect to those who lost their jobs, I have empathy for them, but I do think the collapse of the mainstream media is not bad,” Kelly remarked.

“It’s led to some meltdowns by people who still think that they’re at the top of the influence cycle and don’t wanna see any sort of consequences for the way these outlets have covered the news over the past few years.”

Kelly then played a viral video from The Washington Post’s Taylor Lorenz, which dissected cuts in the media industry. The SiriusXM host took issue with Lorenz saying “radio is basically dead, aside from NPR, which has been gutted.”

“(She has) no clue that there is any huge and thriving right-wing ecosystem. SiriusXM? Thriving. We’re not close to closing our doors like some of the outlets she suggests. It’s like if Taylor doesn’t listen to it, it doesn’t exist.”

Like many other media organizations, SiriusXM underwent widespread cuts in 2023, dropping 8% of its global workforce in a round of reductions last March.
