Brian Mitchell, one half of BMitch and Finlay on 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C., reached out to an old coach of his to come on the show today as a guest. That coach happens to be Andy Reid, whose Kansas City Chiefs just advanced to the Super Bowl yesterday.
Other than Taylor Swift, Andy Reid would have to be one of the most desired guests today. Mitchell has an advantage when it comes to booking Reid, he spent three seasons playing for him in Philadelphia.
Asked about his team, Reid was very complimentary of his defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, and the young players the Chiefs have on defense. He also said their younger players on offense have been “getting better every week.”
Reid pointed to his team’s Week 16 loss to the Raiders as the one that changed things for his team saying “(the Raiders) kicked our tail and it was a bit of a wakeup call for our guys. I felt like we picked up the intensity after that.”
Winning in the playoffs away from home is not somethng Andy Reid and his team have been used to. He said being on the road has allowed them to just be together as a unit. “It allowed you to focus on…your football team and the people that really work their tail off to get us in this position, the organization,” he said.
NFL head coaches are not known for taking a lot of time off, or for doing radio interviews outside of their own market, but Reid said his coaching staff was already well in to 49ers film and that, “There’s no time to waste. You’ve gotten this far, you want to make sure you finish strong.”
Mitchell, who Reid said belongs in the Hall of Fame as a kick returner, asked Reid, “You’ve been doing this a long time, are you still excited about every thing?”
Reid responded, “I am excited. We’re going to the big dance here and if you can’t be excited about that you probably need to get out.”
As the interview began to wrap up, Finlay hit Reid with a small request.
“You’ve traded quarterbacks to Washington before, is there any way Mahomes can come to Washington?” Finlay asked.
Reid replied, “He can come visit!”
