Keith Olbermann: Geraldo Rivera Perfect Match for NewsNation in Worst Way

Geraldo Rivera was announced as the newest correspondent at NewsNation earlier this week. Keith Olbermann doesn’t believe it is cause for celebration.

During his Countdown podcast, Olbermann reiterated his long-held belief that NewsNation is a “Nick-at-Nite” of cable news, where formerly prominent cable news hosts — specifically mentioning Dan Abrams and Chris Cuomo — go to spend their “retirement” years.

Olbermann called the network a “retirement home” for “all those faces you vaguely remember from when cable was a big deal and they were, too, sorta.”

“Of course, Geraldo Rivera is the Geraldo Rivera of Geraldo Rivera’s. He is still complaining that NBC spent money to promote my new show on MSNBC, instead of more money to promote his show on CNBC. He first issued this complaint in the summer of 1997,” said Olbermann. “Well, the inevitable has finally happened. NewsNation announced Geraldo Rivera will join the channel as correspondent at large effective immediately.”

Keith Olbermann concluded his criticism of the network by taking shots at the names of the female hosts, anchors, and correspondents.

“Does this mean we will see less of some of their hard-working female correspondents? Kaylee, and Kelsey, and Keleigh, and Markie, and Marni? By the way, I’m not making that up. Their website lists 23 female anchors and correspondents on NewsNation, including Kaylee, and Kelsey, and Keleigh, and Markie, and Marni, and now, Geraldo.”
