Jim Costa: “There’s Curmudgeony Opinion from Jay Bilas on Court-Storming”

Jim Costa and Jon Jansen, morning hosts on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit, talked about recent comments made by ESPN basketball analyst Jay Bilas on the issue of court-storming. Bilas, appearing on ESPN’s First Take, said, “The truth is nothing is going to change now. We are going to talk about it, it’s going to go away and nothing is going to change. And if they wanted to stop it, they could stop it tomorrow.

“The administrators will tell you that security experts tell them that it’s not a good idea to stop the court storming and that it will cause more problems than it would solve. But you don’t have to stop the court storming. One time, all you have to do is once they’re on the court, don’t let them off. Just say, ‘You’re all detained’ and give them all citations or arrest them if you want to and then court stormings will stop the next day…The fans feel like it’s an entitlement and the universities like it and the truth is we like it.”

As the clip finished, Costa said, “So, there’s curmudgeony opinion from Jay Bilas on court-storming. Give everyone a citation, put them in handcuffs, arrest them, guillotines if necessary, there will be no court-storming.”

Janses added, “…Thanks, Jay. To defend his own Dukie…Should [the players] have to try and avoid people? No. But, it’s part of the world that is college basketball…The judge, hearing all of these citations is going to be like ‘Hey Mr. Bilas, would you like to come in here and handle all of this nonsense?’ This is ridiculous.”
