24-hour news channels have been around for decades. But with the advent of social media and digital platforms, 95.5 WSB afternoon host Eric Von Haessler believes the outlets have become obsolete.
While discussing the 2024 election and cable news on The Von Haessler Doctrine Thursday, the Atlanta-based host shared his belief that the heyday of cable news has come to a close.
“I’ve been wondering this lately,” Von Haessler began. “With CNN’s numbers just so bad — all the 24-hour news channels, it’s over, but they just don’t know it’s over.”
He then half-jokingly, half-seriously questioned if those at CNN were actually hoping Donald Trump would win the upcoming 2024 election, despite their on-air personas featuring disdain for the former president.
“Do you think it’s possible that the people at CNN are secretly hoping for Trump to win? I mean, their ratings are, for them, through the roof,” Von Haessler said. “You get okay ratings just scaring people about Trump. But if Trump’s really there, he’s a real threat. I think, secretly, Anderson Cooper is going to vote for Donald Trump.”
