Could your favorite NFL team be back on the block to appear on Hard Knocks? NFL owners will vote tomorrow to decide if a new slate of changes will impact HBO’s hit unscripted series.
According to Sports Business Journal, NFL owners will vote to expand the potential pool of NFL teams eligible for the program but aims to make the show less invasive. Teams will only be exempt from consideration if:
- The team has participated before in the last 8 years (down from 10)
- The team has a first-year head coach (unchanged)
- The team is tabbed to star in the in-season “Hard Knocks” show in the current season or next season
Under the new proposal, teams who made the playoffs the prior season are no longer off the hook for the next two offseasons. Also, the in- season Hard Knocks will no longer feature one team but instead an entire division.
SBJ says these changes were made to assist producers tell better stories and have more options. Last offseason, NFL Films only had four eligible teams to choose from before choosing the New York Jets.
