The 74th annual Golden Mike Awards were held over the weekend in Southern California, and KFI AM-640 took home more awards than any other radio or TV station.
In total, KFI won 11 awards.
Reporter Steve Gregory and producer Jacob Gonzalez won the bulk of the awards. The duo won trophies for their coverage of the wildfires in Maui. The team won trophies for Best News Reporting, Best Continuing Coverage, and Best Digital Reporting.
Additionally, they took home awards for their interview with Danny Elfman for Best Use of Sound and Best Entertainment Reporting. Overall, Gregory and Gonzalez won nine of the 11 trophies for the station.
Amy King won the ward for Best Specialty Program with KFI Wake Up Call. The station’s Debra Mark took home the trophy for Best Newscast Under 15 Minutes.
Morning show host Bill Handel was honored with the Broadcast Legend Award for his more than 30 years leading the daypart.
The Golden Mike Awards are owned and operated by the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California. The honors are the longest-running broadcast news award in the U.S.
