Longtime WCHV morning show host and Program Director Joe Thomas departed the station over the weekend after reports surfaced tying him to the purchase of a station in a nearby town. He know hopes to keep his long-running program on the air in the Virginia city.
In a post to social media, Thomas updated fans and listeners about the future of his program. He noted that he believes a situation could arise keep him on radio in the city, while he’ll also launch a morning video program as well.
“Update on the show: Had some great meetings about a Charlottesville station giving us a place to sweat, some amazing discussions about stations to the East as well (Fluvanna and Louisa listeners will be pleased) while we work on a deal that could let us start running WTON while we await the FCC license transfer to be approved (‘signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firefighters’),” Thomas wrote.
“For the immediate, I have a computer on the way and the morning after it arrives we will begin a live web morning show.”
In addition to WCHV, Charlottesville is served by news/talk outlet 1070 AM/98.9 FM WINA.
Joe Thomas announced his exit from the station on Saturday after it was reported he purchased WTON-AM in Staunton, Virginia — about 40 miles west of Charlottesville. He also agreed to purchase a pair of FM translators as part of a $275,000 deal for the station.
