The Philip J. Lombardo Spirit Award, announced by the Broadcasters Foundation of America, pays homage to the remarkable dedication and tireless commitment of its former chairman. Lombardo, who sadly passed away earlier this year, left an indelible mark on the Foundation through his unwavering support of its mission to assist broadcasters in times of need.

Ray Cole, a board member of the Broadcasters Foundation and retired President and COO of Citadel Communications, remarked, “Phil believed in giving back to an industry he deeply cared about, contributing both time and treasure to support the vital mission of the Broadcasters Foundation: helping fellow broadcasters during a difficult time in their lives.”

He noted that the award honor Phil Lombardo was an “ideal way” to recognize his “unparalleled leadership and countless efforts that left a lasting impact on the Foundation’s mission.”

The award is made possible through the generous support of Kim Lombardo, Mario Gabelli, and other partners, reflecting the deep appreciation for Lombardo’s leadership and enduring impact on the Foundation.

“Phil brought the sense of urgency that is often needed to give donors an understanding of why they need to donate to our charitable purpose,” added Broadcasters Foundation Chairman Scott Herman. “He led the board for many years, overseeing significant advancements that brought in more funds, and thereby allowing us to continue to distribute financial aid to broadcasters in need.”

The inaugural Spirit Award recipient will be announced prior to the 2025 Golden Mic Award Gala.
