Rob Parker, co-owner and Vice President of Programming for Sports Rap Radio, launching in Detroit in mid-May, has announced the first on-air hire. Montezz Allen, a native of Detroit, has been named co-host of the yet-to-be-named afternoon drive show. Parker said a partner for Allen will be named soon.
This will be Allen’s first full-time radio show after a stint as a TV sports anchor at 41NBC in Macon, Georgia.
“We’re excited to bring one of Detroit’s very own home to talk sports,” said Parker, “Tez has a great voice, passion and has much to say about his hometown teams. Detroiters will connect with him. He’s what this station will be about.”
Parker, co-host of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard on Fox Sports Radio, announced in late February he and a group which includes former NBA player BJ Armstrong will air Sports Rap Radio on WXYT 1270 AM which they are leasing from Audacy. Parker said the intent is to build a network of stations in the top 20-25 black markets.
