Over the weekend, CNN political commentator Alice Stewart died unexpectedly at the age of 58.
Northern Virginia law enforcement officers told the network that Stewart was found outdoors in a neighborhood Saturday morning after suffering an apparent medical event.
“Alice was a very dear friend and colleague to all of us at CNN,” network CEO Mark Thompson told staffers in an email. “A political veteran and an Emmy Award-winning journalist who brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage, known across our bureaus not only for her political savvy, but for her unwavering kindness. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn such an extraordinary loss.”
Since joining the network in 2016, Stewart had served as a political commentator, claiming her role was to be a “conservative voice yet an independent thinker.” Before her time at the cable network, she worked on campaigns for Republican politicians like Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee.
Many of her current and former colleagues took to social media to share tributes honoring her memory after her death was announced.
