NPR has devoted many resources in recent years to its podcasting division. It appears that decision is paying dividends as the network secured the top two spots in the latest Triton Digital podcast rankings.
In the Top Podcasts By Weekly Average Downloads category, NPR News Now and Up First — both produced by NPR — took home first and second place. The programs were joined in the top five by Dateline NBC, Crime Junkie, and Morbid.
The news and talk genres were well represented in the top 20 finishers. The Dan Bongino Show was seventh, dropping one spot from its April finish. Meanwhile, Pod Save America was ninth, The Megyn Kelly Show finished 13th, The Charlie Kirk Show was 19th, and The NPR Politics Podcast finished 20th.
For the first time, the iHeart Audience Network was included in the podcast publisher rankings. The company rocketed to the top spot during the May rankings of Top Sales Networks By Weekly Average Downloads. With more than 500 active shows, the network featured 67.3 million downloads.
SiriusXM Podcast Network, NPR, Wondery, and Audacy Podcast Network rounded out the top five finishers. Radio groups like Cumulus (8th), Salem (12th), Beasley Media Group (16th), and Urban One (18th), were also included in the top 20 rankings.
