Multiple sources have confirmed to BSM that 590 The Fan KFNS owner Dave Zobrist has notified staffers the station in St. Louis will shut down local programming at the end of the month.
KFNS has been owned by Zobrist’s company since they purchased it from Randy Markel in 2021. Markel had bought the station out of bankruptcy in 2015 and returned it to the all-sports format it had run from 1993 until late in 2014.
The current daily lineup for the station is all local with Cam Janssen, Charlie Marlow and Jim Hayes in morning drive, followed by Frank Cusumano who has hosted the late morning slot since the station’s early days. Kevin Slaten and Nate Lucas host different shows in the mid-afternoons and former longtime St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports columnist Bernie Miklasz has been doing afternoon drive.
In May, Bob Ramsey left the station and joined talk station KTRS. He had told Dan Caesar of the Post-Dispatch, “A lot of it has to do with security,” when he was asked about his decision to make the change. “…It’s just that this is an opportunity at a station that has made its mark. The security at 550 seemed like it made more sense for me short term and long term.”
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Zobrist is trying to find a buyer for the radio station. As he pursues a sale, KFNS will air national shows on the station starting Monday July 1st. The Fox Sports Radio lineup will be utilized to offer programming to local listeners.
