The Gridiron Radio Network is set to kick off its third season of college football games and the 2024 season will have a major addition in store. The network will have a slate of Saturday games and will also have a 9-game Friday night schedule and those games will be called by legendary college football announcer Eli Gold.
Back in February, Gold, who had been the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide for 35 years, told Birmingham FOX 6 reporter Jonathan Hardison, “I will not be returning. The university chose to not bring me back. I have not retired!”
Gold missed the 2022 season for health reasons, otherwise he had been calling Crimson Tide games each season since 1988.
Now, Gold will spend his Friday nights on the air calling national matchups for the Gridiron Radio Network. Games are scheduled to begin on October 4 with Syracuse @ UNLV. The other eight games are scheduled to be:
October 11, 2024 – Utah @ Arizona State
October 18, 2024 – Oklahoma State @ BYU
October 25, 2024 – Boise State @ UNLV
November 1, 2024 – San Diego State @ Boise State
November 8, 2024 – New Mexico State @ San Diego State
November 15, 2024 – Wyoming @ Colorado State
November 22, 2024 – Purdue @ Michigan State
November 29, 2024 – Oregon @ Boise State
While the Saturday schedule is still being finalized, the games for August and September have been announced as:
August 24, 2024 – Montana State @ New Mexico
August 31, 2024 – UCLA @ Hawaii
September 7, 2024 – Mississippi State @ Arizona State
September 14, 2024 – Utah @ Utah State
September 21, 2024 – Kansas State @ BYU
September 28, 2024 – Ohio State @ Michigan State
When reached by BSM, Gridiron Network President & General Manager Noah Britt said final schedules and more details would be available soon.
Britt posted on his Facebook account, “While we await our big Saturday schedule for October and November, we are proud to welcome to our team the legendary Eli Gold! Alabama’s loss is our gain at the Gridiron Radio Network! Spend your Fridays with Eli on your local radio station!”
In previous years, the games were available to radio stations through Westwood One. Key Networks was the network advertising sales representative for the Gridiron Network, while Gow Media provided broadcast infrastructure support.
