Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch has been involved in sports media coverage in the past, including on Thursday Night Football studio broadcasts and ESPN SlamBall telecasts last summer. Lynch is now engaging on a new project being referred to as “an unexpected collaboration” with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Wasserman Group NFL agent Doug Hendrickson. The Politickin’ podcast, available through iHeartPodcasts, will release a new episode every week and discuss “the conversations that need to be had.” The show will make its debut on the podcast platform on Monday, July 15.
“It’s bridging gaps,” Lynch said within an introduction released on Wednesday. “You sit down, you come to the roundtable. We need to figure it out. I need to figure out where you coming from, right, but you need to figure out where he’s coming from. Your politickin’ might be a little bit different, you feel me? You handle yours a different way. We bring each side, all walks of life, like how we doing right now, and we figure out what we got going on, and what I’m going to call that is Politickin’, not because he a politician, but because that’s just what we do complete.”
Newsom followed up by saying that the show will be politickin’ without politics, concurring with Lynch’s description of the program. Adam Schefter, senior NFL insider at ESPN, divulged that the show has been in the works for the last six months. He also explained that Newsom and Hendrickson have been friends with one another since the 1990s and that Hendrickson has represented Lynch since 2007.
“We got a lot to do together right now,” Newsom said. “That’s why you’re listening to Politickin’, on iHeartRadio.”
