Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski returned to MSNBC Tuesday after the Morning Joe hosts were removed from the cable news channel Monday in favor of breaking news coverage of the assassination attempt of Donald Trump.
Scarborough revealed the show was told the network was making a decision to sideline their program, and that he did not agree with the decision, stating he was “very surprised, very disappointed” by the call.
“We were told in no uncertain terms on Sunday night that there was going to be one news feed against all channels,” Scarborough said Tuesday morning. “That we were going to stay in breaking news mode all day yesterday. That did not happen. We don’t know why that didn’t happen. Our team was not given a great answer as to why that didn’t happen … I guess after there was such strong blowback about what happened yesterday morning, I guess they changed their plans.”
Instead of airing the long-running Morning Joe program, MSNBC, NBC, and NBC News Now all aired the same special report feed across the platforms.
Joe Scarborough claimed that if a similar situation ever arose, he’d either be on the air or no longer working for the network.
“We all wish we would have been here yesterday … Next time we’re told there’s going to be a news feed replacing us, we will be in our chairs. And the news feed will be us or they can get somebody else to host this show,” Scarborough said, bluntly.
