Randall Cobb, a former NFL wide receiver and Pro Bowl selection, is joining the SEC Network as a college football studio analyst beginning this season. The 13-year NFL veteran played a decade of his career with the Green Bay Packers. Throughout the fall, he will appear on select editions of SEC Now and also work with co-host Alyssa Lang on Out of Pocket on a weekly basis.
“We are thrilled to welcome Randall to the SEC Network crew,” Pete Watters, coordinating producer II at the SEC Network, said in a statement. “His experience and knowledge of the game, both from playing at Kentucky and in the NFL, will be such an asset to our football coverage.”
Cobb, who formerly played with the University of Kentucky and is a member of the institution’s athletics Hall of Fame, is a two-time member of the All-SEC First Team. The Packers selected him in the 2011 NFL Draft after his junior season in Kentucky, leaving the university with 35 touchdowns on nearly 3,000 yards. During his 13-year NFL playing career, he amassed more than 7600 yards on 54 touchdowns, including a standout 2014 season that elicited a spot in the Pro Bowl. After 10 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, split by two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, he joined the New York Jets where he played in 11 games with the team.
“I am incredibly excited to be coming home to the SEC with this new role,” Cobb said in a statement. “The level of greatness this conference provides year after year is unmatched – I cannot wait [to] return to the conference family with this SEC Network crew.”
ESPN and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) agreed to a 10-year media rights deal reportedly worth $300 million per year. The SEC Network is about to complete its 10th year on the air and will continue presenting several games across the portfolio of 21 sports within the conference. Earlier in the week, the network revealed a refresh theme song for SEC Nation featuring country music star Brooke Eden that will premiere in late August.
