KELY 1230 AM in Ely, Nevada has announced it is adding an affiliation with CBS News Radio after what it called “substandard” coverage from other networks during the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.
In a fiery post on social media, the station — which is locally owned and operated — said “This change has nothing to do with politics and everything about having a reliable dedicated news team providing world and national news coverage for you, our listeners.
“During the assassination attempt on President Trump on Saturday, Town Hall and (Salem Radio Network) let our listeners down with substandard and extremely delayed coverage,” the post read. “You deserve better. CBS was not only providing significant coverage of the event as it unfolded, but also was supplying stations with around-the-clock coverage. You, our listeners deserve a committed news team.”
An update from the station shared that it would broadcast CBS News Radio updates at the top of the hour, while maintaining Salem Radio Network at the bottom of the hour.
The station added that it has “been promised that there will not be a lean to the left. We’ll see,” before adding that if CBS News Radio was “good enough for Todd Starnes at KWAM, it’s good enough for us.”
KELY 1230 AM broadcasts The Todd Starnes Show in its 9 AM-Noon timeslot.
