Earlier this year, a group connected to billionaire George Soros became the largest shareholder in radio giant Audacy. 77 WABC host Sid Rosenberg says their station won’t ever have to worry about something similar happening as long as John Catsimatidis is around.
On Friday morning, Rosenberg was chatting with fellow WABC host Curtis Sliwa when the Guardian Angels founder stated that Rosenberg’s attempt to have the station’s news director criticize George Soros was a bad move for his career.
“He owns Audacity (sic). He owns your friends at the Fan (WFAN), 1010 (WINS),” Sliwa said before Rosenberg interrupted.
“He doesn’t own them. Stop. He has a piece of those stations,” said Rosenberg. “He doesn’t own them. And he’s never gonna own us, because John Catsimatidis and Chad Lopez will never let that happen.”
“You know with all the debt over there at Audacity (sic), slowly but surely, he’ll own it,” Sliwa responded.
After Audacy filed for bankruptcy, Soros Fund Management purchased $400 million of debt from the company, which was converted to stock when the radio company reemerged from the pre-packaged filing.
George Soros is a controversial figure in conservative circles. The 93-year-old billionaire has been a large benefactor of mostly Democratic causes since the 2004 Presidential election.
