Mandy Connell: I’ll Cover Democratic National Convention Same Way I Covered RNC in Milwaukee

"I trust my audience to make up their minds about how they feel about it. It's not my job to tell you what to think."

KOA 850 host Mandy Connell had comprehensive coverage of the Republican National Convention earlier this month in Milwaukee. She says listeners can expect the same coverage from the Democratic National Convention next month.

On Friday, a listener asked Connell if she would be “unbiased or antagonistic” toward Democrats in Chicago this August. They also asked if she would even “be as interested” in asking questions to the left side of the political aisle.

In her response, Connell argued her coverage would be no different than what listeners received from the Republican event in Milwaukee.

“My intention is to bring you the Democratic National Convention just as we brought you the Republican National Convention. I’ve tried to explain this, because I already know that when I’m talking to someone who, philosophically, I disagree with, you’re going to be screaming at me through the text line ‘You gotta ask them this. You gotta ask them that!’ That’s not the whole purpose of this,” Connell said.

“I am going to try really, really hard to check my own opinions and just let you — just as I did for all of the people you heard from the RNC — I trust my audience to make up their minds about how they feel about it. It’s not my job to tell you what to think,” she added.

“That being said, I want to hear from Democratic delegates. I want to hear from members of our congressional party.
What is the Democratic vision? I want to bring it to you guys. So, yes,it is not going to be an adversarial situation. It is not going to be antagonistic. That’s not the purpose of us going there. Trust me, I’m going to do my absolute best.”

While in Milwaukee, Connell featured several interviews with Republican politicians as well as conservative media members. She also featured social media videos taking listeners behind the scenes of various aspects of the event in the Wisconsin city.
