Sean Elliott, San Antonio Spurs Star and TV Analyst, Recovering After Apple Watch Detects Irregular Heartbeat

"Enter the amazing cardiology team at Methodist Healthcare who performed several diagnostic tests and imaging and then shocked his heart back into rhythm in a procedure known as cardioversion."

Former San Antonio Spurs standout and current team analyst Sean Elliott is recovering after his Apple Watch detected an irregular heartbeat, according to his wife, Claudia Zapata. She shared an Instagram post which explained the situation that led to Elliott being hospitalized.

“Grateful for the gift of health, an Apple Watch, and the very best healthcare system!” Zapata posted. “Sean wasn’t experiencing any symptoms, but for the last couple of weeks, his Apple watch had been warning him he was in Atrial Fibrillation (also known as A-Fib, it’s when the heart beats irregularly and chaotically and untreated, can lead to a stroke). Enter the amazing cardiology team at Methodist Healthcare who performed several diagnostic tests and imaging and then shocked his heart back into rhythm in a procedure known as cardioversion. One of us was very nervous but knew we were in the best of hands. The other one just wanted some chicken!”

Elliott played for the Spurs from 1989-1993 and again from 1994-2001. This coming season will be his 24th year working as part of the television broadcasts on Bally Sports Southwest. Elliott works with longtime Spurs play-by-play voice Bill Land.
