Mere weeks after announcing he had been diagnosed with cancer, former ESPN Las Vegas host and longtime sports betting handicapper Dave Cokin has died.
The station took to social media to announce the death of its former host and remember him for his contributions to the Lotus Broadcasting station.
“One of the originators of sports talk radio in Las Vegas, Dave anchored the Lotus Broadcasting sports staff for years. Smokin Dave. The Kangol Kid! RIP Cokin,” the station wrote.
Cokin revealed last month that he was retiring from his handicapping career after being moved to home hospice care following a 2023 diagnosis of cancer.
He began his career in the desert full-time in 1987 as a host of The Stardust Line, which focused on sports betting, on KDWN-AM. He letter hosted The Las Vegas Sportsline on ESPN Las Vegas.
Many in the industry took to social media to pay their respects to the Las Vegas sports radio legend.
Dave Cokin was 71 years old.
