Former WBAL host Jim West, best known as the former co-host of Jones and West on the Baltimore news/talk station, has died.
West hosted the morning show alongside Bob Jones from 1983 to 1990 after calling games on WITH Radio for the Baltimore Clippers, a minor league hockey team in the city. It was a return to WBAL for West who had previously served as a disc jockey from 1956 to 1961 on the station before it’s news/talk days.
In addition to his role on the station’s morning show, he also served as both the News Director and Sports Director for the station before retiring in 1995.
“He always had a joke. Most people who come to work are miserable, but that wasn’t Jim. He loved his job,” Mark Miller, the station’s former news director, told The Baltimore Sun. “Jones and West were just two guys who loved their jobs and never got mad at each other.”
After leaving the Hearst-owned station, Jim West was named to the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2007.
West died Friday due to heart failure. He was 95 years old.
