Scripps News, the national network owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, has announced the addition of Paul Crane as a full-time on-air sports reporter. Crane, who has been a regular contributor at Scripps News over the past two years, will start his new full-time correspondent duties on Monday, Aug. 12 through which he will appear on programs across the network. He first began working at Scripps as a segment producer and sports contributor in August 2021, which followed a stint freelancing at The Weather Channel and ongoing sports anchoring for iHeartMedia on a part-time basis.
Under his new role, Crane will work closely with Scripps News sports reporters situated in more than 50 cities around the United States. These industry professionals work and live in the communities that they cover, providing contributions to the overall slate of network programming.
The Emmy Award-winning television sportscaster has more than three decades of experience that he spent primarily as a sports anchor, reporter and play-by-play announcer, including three years of professional basketball in India. Over the years, he has covered several Super Bowl championships, college national championships, the Final Four, two Olympic Games and a variety of other major sporting events.
Crane previously worked as an anchor and reporter for both CNN Sports and CNN/SI, and he has also appeared on various regional sports networks over the years, including Fox Sports Net, Comcast Sports Southeast and Cox Sports Television. With the latter outlet, he hosted a television show surrounding the New Orleans Saints for nine seasons. Additionally, Crane was the sports director for several local television stations, including KTBS in Shreveport, La. and KDFW in Dallas, Texas.
The E.W. Scripps Company continues to expand its sports portfolio, recently announcing an over-the-air television deal with the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. Scripps Sports also televises games for the Vegas Golden Knights, Women’s National Basketball Association, Big Sky Conference and National Women’s Soccer League, along with the forthcoming debut of the Utah Hockey Club.
