Danny Parkins addressed his future this afternoon on 670 The Score, although he did not yet confirm reports he is headed to FS1. What he did confirm is that his last Parkins & Spiegel show will be Wednesday and then Thursday and Friday he will do his previously scheduled ‘Cubs for a Cure’ 24-hour radiothon with a stated goal of raising $1 million for cancer research to help BrainUp and Stand Up To Cancer. The event raised over $700,000 last year.
Parkins discussed the topic during the transition segment with Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes.
“Tomorrow is going to be my last Parkins & Spiegel show, and I will be ending my full-time employment at The Score with the Radiothon,” he said. “I am not allowed yet to say exactly where I’m going, but if anyone has been on the internet and checked out the speculation, I’m sure you can connect the dots. I should have the ability to say all the details on that tomorrow.
“This is incredibly emotional for me and has happened very, very fast. I wish I could have given a little bit more public notice, but trust me, it’s happened incredibly fast in my personal life also. I’m grateful that we get a goodbye show because I truly love what Spiegs [and the team] have created in afternoons. And, you know, this is a life-changing opportunity for me and my family, and so I don’t leave here lightly.”
Parkins mentioned this was always his dream position.
“When I was 16 years old…I wanted to host afternoon drive in Chicago. That’s been my dream for 20 years professionally. That’s been my dream job…And when I got it, I thought I was gonna be here for 25 years…I never really thought, maybe it was from insecurity or self-deprecation, it wasn’t for lack of ambition or belief in my talent, but I didn’t really think that this was gonna be possible for me. I thought maybe a side hustle or an extra project or this or that, but I didn’t think this was really possible. And then I’ve started to kind of change that given some things that have happened, and it’s happening. And so, I’m incredibly excited about where I’m going, and I’ve loved my seven and a half years here. It has literally been a dream come true.”
Parkins started with The Score in January of 2017 when he moved from 610 Sports in Kansas City.
While Parkins couldn’t confirm exactly where he is headed, an internal memo to staff from Mitch Rosen, Vice President for The Score and BetQL Network, obtained by Barrett Media, said that “Danny has accepted a tv job outside of the Chicago market.”
