Oliver Darcy: There is a Plan to Grow Status Past Just One Newsletter After CNN Exit

"Maybe we have a podcast component. Maybe some live events."

Last week, former CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy announced he was exiting CNN to launch his own media company called Status.

Darcy launched the new newsletter days after departing CNN. And after its launch, he was asked about what the future of the digital startup looked like and if he had any aspirations for what was next.

“Is there a vision to grow it beyond just one newsletter? Of course,” Oliver Darcy told Mediaite’s SiriusXM show Press Club. “I want to get the core product established, set up on its two feet, and that’s going to take a little bit of time. We got it up pretty quickly, given I left CNN exactly one week ago. That’s when it was announced. I want to still kind of get it standing a little firmer in the sand. But after that, yes, I would love to grow this.

“Maybe we have a podcast component. Maybe some live events, particularly for the founders who are signing up from the founder’s membership. All sorts of different things.”

The 33-year-old Darcy also shared that he is “definitely not trying to create CNN or a major institution” by launching his new media company, but did believe he was filling a void by being a one-stop-shop for media coverage curated by him daily.
