Erik Gee Exits 97.1 The Sports Animal in Tulsa

"This is not anywhere close to the end. There's a big announcement coming up. But that's for another day and another time."

97.1 The Sports Animal Assistant Program Director and midday host Erik Gee has announced he has departed the Tulsa sports radio station.

In a video published on social media, Gee thanked listeners for embracing him in his role at the Stephens Media Group station.

“Just wanted to let you know that Friday was my last day at The Sports Animal in Tulsa,” he shared. “I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. It has been a privilege and an honor to be in your cars, your offices, in your earbuds as you were taking me for walks with your dogs or your kids or just doing whatever you did. The fact that you spend any time with me at all completely blows me away. I’ve never been more embraced by listeners, by a town, hell I’ve never been hugged by anyone that’s ever listened to my show before and that happened in Tulsa.”

He went on to thank his Sports Animal colleagues — including Pat Jones, who he co-hosted the 11 AM-2 PM timeslot with — for the generosity and respect during his tenure at the station.

Erik Gee had previously worked at 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma City before joining 97.1 The Sports Animal. He also spent time hosting New Mexico before moving to Oklahoma. In addition to his work with the Tulsa radio station, he has also hosted the Sooner Schooner Show for Heartland College Sports.

In his video message to social media, Gee alluded to a bigger announcement on the horizon.

“This is not anywhere close to the end. There’s a big announcement coming up. But that’s for another day and another time,” he shared. “And tp quote, one of my all-time favorite bands, Rush: It’s my time to drive.”
