Audacy sports station WEEI and NESN teamed up and have raised over $3.9 million and counting for The Jimmy Fund. The Jimmy Fund provides critical funding for cancer research and care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for adults and children. This year marks the 22nd year of doing the event which has now raised over $73 million since its establishment in 2002 to improve the lives of cancer patients.
The fundraiser aired on Tuesday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 14. WEEI weekday programming which includes The Greg Hill Show Gresh & Fauria, and Jones & Mego combined to welcome Dana-Farber patients and their families, doctors, researchers, nurses and executives.
Programming during the radio-telethon featured Boston Red Sox President Sam Kennedy, Manager Alex Cora, current players Nick Pivetta, Liam Hendriks, Chris Martin and Kenly Jansen, team greats David Ortiz, Carlton Fisk, Jason Varitek, Brock Holt and Lou Merloni, Boston Bruins Chief Executive Officer Charlie Jacobs, current player Pavel Zacha, and team greats Ray Bourque and Andrew Raycroft, Boston College Head Football Coach Bill O’Brien; New England Patriots great Devin McCourty and New England Revolution Head Coach Caleb Porter.
The radio-telethon was started by WEEI, The Jimmy Fund and the Boston Red Sox in 2002. NESN joined the event in 2003.
