Am I Racist?, the movie released by The Daily Wire host Matt Walsh, saw a strong opening weekend as it hit theaters last weekend.
The film debuted at more than 1,500 theaters across the nation, with $4.75 million in sales at the box office. That figure was good for fourth on the list of domestic films.
The Matt Walsh Show host argued that the first-weekend performance of the film came on the heels of a complete lack of coverage from film reviewers.
“Most mainstream critics have ignored our film,” Walsh argued on social media, before noting that a YouTuber reviewed the film with high praise. “His review has over 300,000 views in less than a day. Maybe that will inspire other major critics to follow his lead.”
The film has been rated more than 500 times on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 99% rating. However, to Walsh’s point, it has not received any reviews from critics thus far.
A report from Deadline claims Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Salt Lake City, and Nashville were the top five markets for the film.
