NewsNation host Chris Cuomo grew up in a political family. That gives him a unique perspective in regard to political violence, and he’s not happy with the reaction to a purported second assassination attempt against Donald Trump.
During his primetime show on Monday, Cuomo reacted to the situation by pushing back against the lackadaisical response from the news media.
“That reaction of, ‘Well, don’t make too much of it,’ he had an AK-47 pointed at him! The reaction is unacceptable,” Cuomo said. “And it’s the second time media and political players have gotten away with playing down what should be a cause for panic.”
Chris Cuomo then revealed he called Donald Trump after the incident. He shared that he didn’t “ask him any questions” from a political stance, but rather to question how his family is taking the incident. He added that he felt compelled to call the former President because he was “ashamed” of how the news media responded to the event.
“I called him today because I am ashamed of how we are responding and now responding to the threats on him, and I feel for his family, and I know you can roll your eyes and say he asked for it — listen, that’s your choice, and I think it’s a wrong choice,” said Cuomo.
He added that he can remember seeing an angry observer throw something at his father — Mario Cuomo, who served as Governor of New York from 1983 to 1994 — during a political rally and being afraid that someone could hurt his father, which led him to sympathize with the Trump family.
Where do I go for my news if I like Donald Trump but not as my president can people stop talking bad against him
