The SEC on ABC is off to a great start and with this weekend seeing three inter-conference matchups, the games drew big numbers. For the week, three of the top four most-watched games came from the games being shown by the Disney-owned outlet.
The big driver was the game between then-No. 1 ranked Georgia and unranked Kentucky which turned out to be a much different game than most were expecting. Kentucky gave Georgia all they could handle, but the Bulldogs prevailed 13-12. That game turned out to be the week’s most-watched game drawing an average of 6.7 million viewers and peaking at 9 million.
Another thriller that didn’t go according to the script was the SEC game between LSU and South Carolina. College GameDay originated from the South Carolina campus before the game and the Gamecocks gave the Tigers everything they had but came up just short and fell 36-33. The game drew 5.3 million viewers and peaked at 8.7 million. According to ESPN, this game was the SEC’s second-best noon game in six years.
Texas A&M at Florida was the afternoon game, and the Aggies led 20-0 at halftime. The final was 33-20 and Florida dropped to 1-2 on the season. The game drew 5.1 million viewers and peaked at 5.8 million.
