WWE to Air ‘Saturday Night’s Main Event’ on NBC and Peacock, First Show Scheduled for December 14

The first show aired May 11, 1985, the day after the event took place, and featured Hulk Hogan, Junkyard Dog, George 'The Animal' Steele and Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat.

WWE and NBC announced the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will air live on Saturday, December 14 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and simulcast on Peacock. The event will take place at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, N.Y., which was also the site of the first-ever Saturday Night’s Main Event in 1985.

This will be the first primetime special and subsequent shows will run quarterly as part of WWE and NBCUniversal’s new five-year domestic media rights partnership. That agreement officially started last Friday when WWE SmackDown aired on USA Network.

Saturday Night’s Main Event originally premiered on NBC in May of 1985. It originally ran on weeks when Saturday Night Live did not have a new episode until 1991. Both Fox and NBC have aired Saturday night wrestling specials since then, but none have aired since 2008.
