ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski left his position earlier this week, leading Adam Schefter to give his colleague a fond farewell. The Ringer’s Bill Simmons thought it was a bit over the top, to say the least.
As he bid Wojnarowski farewell, Schefter noted that the NBA Insider was prioritizing his personal life and family by making the move to become the General Manager of the men’s basketball team at St. Bonaventure.
Schefter used the words “sad” and “emotional” to describe the decision by Wojnarowski. “I love him as a reporter, I love him as a friend, and he is the best basketball reporter who ever was,” Schefter said of his colleague.
On The Bill Simmons Podcast, The Ringer founder shared his belief that Schefter’s tribute was ridiculous.
“You can’t overreact after Adrian Wojnarowski retires, like Adam Schefter did. ‘He wanted his life back. He didn’t want to have to work on holidays, he didn’t want to have to be away from more family gatherings, he didn’t want to take a shower with your phone up against the shower door so you can see a text that’s coming in, or take your phone with you to the urinal and hold it in one hand while you take care of your business in the other. That’s the life we live.’ That’s a thing Adam Schefter said on television!” said Simmons.
“Was Adrian Wojnarowski, was he an ER doctor during COVID? I wasn’t sure,” he said sarcastically. “What happened yesterday? What was that?”
