According to a report from Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, NBC Sports and NFL analyst Cris Collinsworth are close to signing a four-year contract extension. Collinsworth works on the network’s No. 1 team alongside Mike Tirico with Melissa Stark on the sidelines.
Collinsworth started on Sunday Night Football in 2009, taking over for John Madden, and worked with Al Michaels through 2021. Starting in 2022, Tirico took over and Michaels went to Amazon’s Prime Video to do Thursday Night Football with Kirk Herbstreit and Kaylee Hartung.
According to Marchand, Collinsworth is expected to get a bump on what is believed to currently be a $12.5 million per year agreement, however, it is expected to be less than the $18 million paid by CBS to Tony Romo and by ESPN to Troy Aikman.
NBC will have two Super Bowl broadcasts between now and what would be the end of the new agreement. NBC and Peacock will have the game in 2026 and 2030, which could make the second one the final game for Collinsworth.
Collinsworth, 65, was a second-round draft pick of the Cincinatti Bengals out of Floriday. He played eight seasons in the NFL, all of them with the Bengals.
Collinsworth started the broadcasting portion of his career with WLW radio and also worked on the acclaimed HBO show Inside the NFL. He has won 17 Sports Emmy Awards in his career and in 2023 was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
