The Charlotte, NC-based “Ace & TJ Show” unexpectedly announced a rebrand and relaunch as “TJ & Riggins” effective Monday (9/23). David “Ace” Cannon has left the show.
Riggins, the new co-host, joined the show as an intern in 2009 and subsequently became a regular on-air and off-air presence. Since 2016, he has been Vice President of Programming for The Ace & TJ Network.
In 1991, Cannon and Ritchie “TJ” Beams crossed paths while working part-time at KQID radio in Alexandria, Louisiana. The two would later be paired as co-hosts for the station’s morning show.
Adam Goodman, the duo’s manager, told The Charlotte Observer, “We have an agreement with Ace that’s basically a nondisclosure agreement,” but added that “we want to try at least to relay that … he is still our friend.”
Goodman acknowledged the departure was “rather sudden” but downplayed speculation he was reading on social media, “I don’t want it to look that way at all. It has nothing to do with TJ or any of the rest of the staff.”
Said Goodman: “We’re doing the exact same show (starting) Monday. It’s just called something different — and Ace isn’t there.”
