Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong had some choice words for the city of Las Vegas during the band’s recent performance in San Francisco.
Armstrong, an Oakland A’s fan, apparently took exception to the team moving to Las Vegas, and in his rant against A’s ownership, said the following about the team’s future home.
“I (expletive) hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst (expletive) hole in America.”
Two Las Vegas Rock stations are hitting back by banning Green Day’s music from their airwaves.
Beasley Media’s Alternative KXTE (X1075 Xtreme Radio) addressed the issue on air and social media.
Xtreme Radio PD Carlota Gonzalez told Barrett Media her initial reaction, “What an a$$hole…kidding, sort of, No, in all seriousness, I thought, why are you coming after us? Yes, it sucks that you are losing your teams, and that must be awful. I’m a passionate sports fan as well, so I understand that it must suck to lose a part of your growing up, your city, and your culture. I get that. But to say disparaging things about a city I’m proud to be a part of, and a city that has done nothing but support Green Day for decades was out of line. Sure, are we perfect? No. But we are family, and we can talk shit about our own family, but someone from the outside comes in and says our mom is ugly; we aren’t going to stand for that.”
She says listener reactions are ” mostly positive. And the negative is typically from outside the market.”
Asked if Green Day would ever see the airwaves at X1075 again, “I can’t answer that. We banned Limp Bizkit for over a decade, and now they’re back on…So I guess never say never.
Lotus Media’s Rocker KOMP posted on Facebook.
KOMP morning host Brandon “Gooch” Hahn called Armstrong, 52, “old and bitter.” Adding, “The last four or five albums weren’t art; they were paint-by-numbers garbage.”
