WMAL morning man Larry O’Connor is going to college. Hillsdale College, that is, to teach students of the Michigan university about podcasting.
The O’Connor & Company host will teach a one-credit, two-week course called “Broadcasting and Podcasting” at the college. He will aim to teach how media has evolved in recent years, and will approach it through the lens of how the medium was influenced by Andrew Breitbart.
He told the college’s newspaper he’s hoping to inspire students to launch their own media endeavors.
“It’s very much a wide-open field, and I think it’s something that if I had to do it all over again, I’d be thrilled to be starting at your age,” O’Connor said.
He added that he hopes to teach young people how to begin their media careers, something he had to figure out on his own.
“By the end of the classes that I’m delivering, I’m hoping that anyone who attends it should have the tools to just plug in a microphone to their computer and start their own podcast,” O’Connor said. “I never went to college,” he added. “It’s pretty wild for me to find myself in this position as an instructor for college students.”
The class taught by the WMAL host will begin on Monday, October 21st.
