Friday night college football continues to draw in viewers. This past week saw ESPN have their second-best Friday game since 2018 as an average of 3.3 million viewers tuned in to see an ACC matchup between Virginia Tech and Miami. Miami won the game 38-34 after a controversial overturned call after a Hail Mary attempt by Virigina Tech appeared to have been a touchdown.
ESPN said the game was the top primetime telecast across broadcast and cable among the 2+, P19-49 and P18-34 demographics. Teh game peaked at 4.4 million viewers and was the top game of the night across all networks.
The previous week FOX Sports averaged over 4.2 million for a Big 10 matchup between Illinois and Nebraska. This week, Rutgers’ 21-18 win over Washington averaged 1.9 million viewers and peaked over 2.5 million.
The two games combined drawing over 5 million average viewers mean the fans seem to like having the Friday night games, which means they should expect to see more of them down the line.
